Business Plan Loan Proposal

Apply Your Skills Speech 12/11/1999

Hello, my name is Dawn Gray, and I have got a great investment opportunitty for you! I started an internet marketing proprietorship called Busy Marketing last July. I help accounting firms (and other small businesses) promote their websites, with little or no advertising budget, through search engines and other free and low-cost media. For just $100,000, you can cash in on the ready market of website promotion for accounting firms through an up-and-coming company with practically no overhead.

I started Busy Marketing after promoting Michael Gray, CPA's website for two years, because I had several people come to me and ask for (paid) website marketing consultations. They noticed Michael Gray, CPA's website was ranked high on search engines and wanted me to do the same for them. Accountants are an extremely under-served market for website promotional services! There's a lot of money to be made here.

Using software and my experience on the Internet, I will help accountants and other small businesses achieve a flood of new clients while avoiding flashy ads on TV, radio, and in the newspapers, which many professionals like accountants and lawyers are ethically prohibited from.

My services include internet marketing, website design, copywriting, search engine and directory submissions, and website critiques. I eventually also intend to offer electronic instruction books and screensavers.

Right now, I'm the only employee of Busy Marketing. I live at home, and work in my bedroom on my computer. I don't pay much rent, and I don't have to pay for property taxes or utilities (except my phone). I work part-time for Michael Gray, CPA as an administrative assistant and webmaster. I paid Busy Marketing's start-up costs out of my own pocket, and have been using the profits from my clients to pay for expenses and supplies. My business has such low overhead, that even with only four clients, Busy Marketing is already turning a profit.

Because I don't have many expenses, it should be easy for me to pay back your loan.

Even though my business is already doing well, I haven't earned enough to fund an off-line advertising campaign. With all the new companies jumping on the internet marketing bandwagon, I think advertising early and often is vital to my company's future. I need to make a name for myself now, while the industry is still young and I can easily differentiate my company from my competition. I would like a loan of $100,000 to promote my business so I can make Busy Marketing THE place for accountants to go for internet marketing solutions.

I am already marketing my website and free email newsletter through search engines, directories, discussion lists, ad swaps, tri-fold brochures, and in person. Next year, I hope to start offering seminars on Website Marketing to promote my services as well. With $100,000 for advertising, I would also place ads in accounting magazines and electronic newsletters and run banner ad campaigns on accounting websites. I would also expand the direct mailings I'm already planning after tax season.

I could run three ads in the best accounting magazine, the Journal of Accountancy. Each ad is $18,000, and reaches 530,000 accountants and business executives. That would be $54,000.

I would also spend $20,000 on ads in other accounting magazines.

The Electronic Accountant is the best place for accounting news on the internet. They offer Department Sponsorships for $8,000 per quarter. I would like to sponsor a department for two quarters, for $16,000.

That would leave me $10,000 to spend on electronic newsletter classifieds.

I think ads in major accounting journals and websites would bring my business new clients, subscribers to my free electronic newsletter, brand recognition, and a lot of new traffic to my website. Once I get website decision-makers to my site, I will continue to encourage them to subscribe to my newsletter and buy my services.

With a successful advertising campaign, I will have enough extra money to start paying off the loan in a year. Accountants are flocking online with the increasing popularity of e-commerce. They are discovering internet-savvy people are looking for accountants and tax information online. Websites are the perfect avenue for professionals like accountants and lawyers, who have strict ethical guidelines about advertising

Websites allow them to attract potential clients without advertising by making it easy for interested individuals and businesses to find information about their services.

Many accountants have put up a website, but nobody ever comes to visit. Nobody can find it! Accountants and web designers are not internet marketing savvy. Accountants expect their website designers to get them top search engine positions, and their website designers are focusing on making them a beautiful website. Even if they accidentally get listed well on search engines, they may not get the traffic they expected.

I can make accounting (and other small business) websites truly effective by bringing visitors from a variety of sources, including search engines.

My competition includes other on-line marketing companies, a few local internet marketing companies, and Mostad & Christensen, Inc., who provide accountants with a variety of services, including website design and marketing.

Unlike the on-line marketing companies and local firms, I offer personal experience working with accounting websites. Michael Gray, CPA and Perisho, Tombor, Loomis, and Ramirez already have successful websites, thanks to my help.

Mostad & Christensen works regularly with CPAs, but they can't offer the personalized, one-on-one assistance Busy Marketing can. They help CPAs with templates, standard programs, and superficial website reviews. They may be able to help with search engine positioning, but they will not get their clients listings in major directories, help them select keywords, or teach their staff how to keep their website up to date.

Accountants and other small businesses need an internet marketing company like Busy Marketing to help them promote their websites effectively. You can cash in on their need through a company with low overhead and a high chance of success. If I can get my name and services in front of my potential clients, I can make Busy Marketing THE place for accountants and other small businesses to find internet marketing solutions. Give me $100,000 for advertising, and my business will soar, as will your profits.
