Butterflies, tide pools, a freshwater stream with warm(er) water and a geologically interesting beach. What more can you ask for on the Northern California coast?
Natural Bridges was named for three big holes in the cliff, but two have since fallen down in storms. The one that's left is too far out to walk through, but it's still fun to look at.
If you go in the winter, you're likely to see hordes of Monarch butterflies wintering in the eucalyptus trees. If you go in summer, you can enjoy the clean beach and excellent surf. If you think the 70 degree ocean water here is too cold, wade in the creek coming down from the mountains. It's usually about 10 degrees warmer.
Any time of year, you can go see the tide pools. Check for a low tide for best results, but there is abundant wildlife out there: mussels, barnacles, limpets, snails, and sea anemones are guaranteed. You might also find small fish, crabs, sea stars and sea urchins in the pools. Keep your eyes open!
