Memorial Park is a beautiful spot off Highway 84. From San Jose, take Interstate 280 to Highway 84. Take Highway 84 toward Half Moon Bay. There is a sign on Highway 84 indicating a right turn.
Memorial Park allows camping, swimming, and hiking for reasonable prices. (I think it was $5 for day use and $10 for a camping spot.) I haven't actually stayed there, but we stopped and walked around and decided to camp there someday.
Why? Highlights of Memorial Park include the above tree, and a redwood trunk you can crawl through. (It's hollow.) And when I say they have swimming, I don't mean some chlorinated swimming pool! I mean they've dammed the stream and have an honest-to-God swimming hole.
