I'm Helping To Resurrect UCSC's Silicon Valley Alumni Association

Late last year, the UCSC Alumni Resource Office emailed a bunch of people to find out if anyone would like to help restart the second largest group of alumni. I answered the call.

Since then, we've had a potluck, a coffee, and a professor lecture in San Jose. Now, I'm the contact person. That doesn't sound very important, but it is since I'm the only person in the Silicon Valley association with an actual title. There's just one other person who's more active than me in getting things together in San Jose.

This April, John and I went to the Regional Leader's Conference at the UCSC Spring Slug Faire. I brought Jimmy, Chris and Luisa to show them the campus and Jen to drive us. We all got breakfast on the way, then more stuff free once we got there.

We arrived late, and I had to run across campus since Jen was directed to the wrong parking lot and shuttles were not yet going from the Bay Tree Bookstore to Porter. It was worth it. I learned quite a bit! (Like next time, go by yourself and do more networking.)

I think this will be an excellent way to exercise my leadership and speaking skills and - perhaps more importantly - get out of the house!
